PLANNING FOR A BAPTISM

Baptism

“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission.”  — Catechism of the Catholic Church 1213

Preparation

The Sacrament of Baptism for children ages six and under is regularly celebrated every first and third Sunday of the month after the 10:30 a.m. Mass or by appointment.

Parents are required to be registered and active members for at least one month prior to starting the preparation process. Parents must attend
a pre-Baptismal instruction class online that is scheduled on the second Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m.

All necessary forms and paperwork, including Baptism Registration form of a parish, a copy of the child’s birth certificate, and the godparents’ sponsorship certificates, must be submitted to the Parish Office prior to attending the class. Please visit our parish website: www.ourladyofhopechurch.com for the forms required.

Requirement for Godparents

Careful thought should be given to the choice of godparents. The godparent is to be added spiritually to the immediate family of the one to be baptized and also represents the church. Professing and living their Catholic faith, the godparents are to help the parents bring up their child to profess and live that same faith. The Code of Canon Law lists the requirements for godparents. The godparent must be over 16 yrs. old who has received the Sacrament of Confirmation and must be a practicing Catholic.

Please call the Parish Office at 847-825-4673 or email office@ourladyofhopechurch.com for preparation and scheduling.

Please note classes and baptisms may be subject to change.
